Wyatt wins GT title
Jeff Wyatt followed up his 2013 GT Cup GTA Championship win by finally brushing off his challengers at the final race meeting over the Cheshire Oulton Park circuit last weekend, to win the 2014 title too. The final two sprint races saw Jeff claim a 4th and a 3rd place finish, which was enough to allow him to claim back to back Class titles in the National, multi marque multi class GT Championship. The overall Championship winner was Jim Geddie in a McClaren MP4-12c on 510 points with Jeff also claiming 3rd place overall on 477 points, just one point shy of this year’s runner up David Walley in his Porsche 997 GT3 car.
Consistency was the key to claiming the trophies , Jeff and his Geoff Steel Racing team prepared BMW E46 M3 only recorded one DNF throughout the 39 race long stretch from the start of the 2013 campaign to last weekends final two race outing of 2014 at Oulton Park. “ Apart from a failing clutch at Snetterton which meant we finished last in two races there and this weekends broken Alternator which was easily fixed, the car never failed me and gave me the confidence to constantly push. Its been a cracking run and it was great to keep the pressure on Jim and David for the overall right up to the last day “ says the Milton Keynes based racing driver.
Lady luck also played its part for Jeff as at the start of the last race some 6 cars were caught up in a major start line shunt right in front of him. “ it was carnage unfolding in front of me, but amazingly a gap opened up for me and I gratefully accelerated through it, pretty much missing everything. Once we eventually restarted it was a case of concentrating to bag the 3rd place race finish in one piece. “ muses Wyatt
