This light weight solution replaces the standard, heavy E46 Boot Lid.
Description
This boot lid is designed to reduce weight from the rear of the BMW E46 chassis. It can be installed on all E46 coupes, including M3’s.
It is a direct copy of the OEM CSL boot lid but please don’t expect the same quality as the original BMW item. This is less than third of the price of the original….and that’s if you can find one for sale.
This product is designed for use on race and track cars only. Many people have fitted this to their road car but we don’t believe the quality and fitment is good enough for nice road cars. The panel gaps are not perfect and if you want to install the original boot lock, lights and inner trims you would need to cut these holes yourself. There is no provision for securing the key barrel and so a microswitch would have to be used.
The double skin version can be used on the original hinges, the single skin version is literally the outer skin for maximum weight saving. The single skin must be secured using bonnet clips, Aerocatches or boot springs.
We can manufacture this product in fibreglass, carbon fibre finished in white or black (ready to paint) or carbon fibre showing the carbon weave on the outer surface. Please note the carbon weave may have small imperfections in it due to our manufacturing process. There is also a black outline in the left to right crease across the back. This is because the carbon fabric cannot be laid into the tight gap and so leaves air bubbles showing, the thin black line looks much more presentable.
An original BMW steel boot lid weigh’s 14kg, our double skin version weigh’s 8kg. Our single skin is 5kg
There’s a choice of carbon fibre weave finish. You can choose from the 2x2 twill or plain weave, also known as 1x1. You can opt for your choice of finish in the colour section in the ordering process.
